5. Housing
The ratio of owned houses had risen and the area of floor space per household had expanded.
- As for the private households by tenure of dwelling, 29,927,443 households were owned houses and 13,004,553 households rented houses owned privately, accounting for 62.1% and 27.0% of the total number of private households, respectively. The ratio of owned houses households had risen by 1.0 percentage points from 2000.
- The area of floor space per household had increased by 0.5 m2 to 91.8 m2 compared with 2000. By tenure of dwelling, the average area of floor space of owned houses households was 119.8 m2, while that of households rented houses owned privately remained at about one-third at 42.8 m2.
The ratio of aged-single-persons in rented houses owned privately is higher compared with private households with related members 65 years of age and over.
- As for the private households with related members aged 65 years old and over by tenure of dwelling, 83.5% were owned houses and 9.3% were rented houses owned privately, indicating that the ratio of owned houses of households with related members aged 65 years old and over was higher compared with private households as a whole.
- Regarding the aged-couple households , the ratio of owned houses was 86.4%, while that of rented houses owned privately was 6.3%.
- Regarding aged-single-persons, the ratio of owned houses was 64.9%, while that of rented houses owned privately was 21.1%, indicating that the ratio of these households living in rented houses owned privately was higher than that of private households with related members aged 65 years old and over as a whole. - The number of private households with related members aged 65 years old and over living in owned houses had increased by 1,701,313 households, or 13.5%, from 2000. By type of family, 2,495,278 households were formed by aged-single-persons, increased 573,579 households (29.8%) from 2000. In addition, a total of 3,866,044 aged-couple households, increased of 726,903 households, or 23.2%, from 2000. (Fig. 13)
The ratio of private households living in apartment houses or flats was 39.5%.
- As for the private households by type of building, 27,533,066 households (57.2% of private households) owned a detached house, while 19,014,478 households (39.5%) lived in apartment houses or flats. Compared with 2000, the number of those that own a detached house had increased by 778,768 households (2.9%), while the number of those living in apartment houses or flats had increased by 1,905,648 households (11.1%), indicating that the ratio of households living in apartment houses or flats was rising at a rapid pace.(Fig. 14)
