6. Foreigners
Foreigners had increased by 18.7% from 2000.
- Foreigners were 1,555,505 persons, had increased by 244,960 persons, or 18.7%, compared with 2000. By nationality, Korea formed the largest group with 466,637 (30.0% of the total foreigners ), followed by China with 346,877 (22.3%), Brazil with 214,049 (13.8%) and Philippines with 123,747 (8.0%). Compared with 2000, the number of China, Brazil and Philippines people had increased by 37.1%, 13.6% and 32.1%, respectively, while the number of Korea people had decreased by 11.9%. - By sex, 726,644 were males and 828,861 were females. Compared with 2000, male had increased by 105,598 (17.0%) and female had increased by 139,362 (20.2%).
Half of the foreigners concentrated in five prefectures in which major cities located.
- As for the number of foreigners by prefecture, Tokyo-to had the largest population of foreigners 248,363 (16.0% of the total population of foreigners ), followed by Osaka-fu with 175,766 (11.3%), Aichi-ken with 150,115 (9.7%), Kanagawa-ken with 115,412 (7.4%) and Hyogo-ken with 85,943 (5.5%). The population of foreigners residing in these five prefectures accounted for almost half (49.9%) of the total population of foreigners in Japan. (Fig. 17)
