NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
The Statistics Bureau of Japan (SBJ) published the Japan Statistical Yearbook 2020
The Japan Statistical Yearbook is the comprehensive and systematic summary of basic statistical information of Japan covering wide-ranging fields such as Land, Population, Economy, Society, Culture, and so on.
The yearbook covers all fields of statistics published by government and private organisations.
This volume contains 30 fields, 540 tables, including outline of the survey and explanation of terms.
As the statistical tables of the Yearbook are available in English, it can be useful to introduce information on Japan.

- The total population was 126.15 million, a decrease of 0.28 million (0.22 percent) from the previous year.

- The total population was 126,265 thousand, a decrease of 264 thousand (0.21 percent) from the previous year.
- The population under 15 years old was 15,285 thousand, a decrease of 200 thousand (1.29 percent) from the previous year.
- The population aged 15 to 64 was 75,179 thousand, a decrease of 393 thousand (0.52 percent) from the previous year.
- The population aged 65 and over was 35,801 thousand, an increase of 329 thousand (0.93 percent) from the previous year.

The consumer price index for Japan in November 2019 was 102.3 (2015=100), up 0.5 % over the year before seasonal adjustment, and up 0.2 % from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.

"Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan" (November 2019)
- The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 336,866 a decrease of 14,350 (4.1 %) from the previous year.
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 139,634, a decrease of 4,483 (3.1 %) from the previous year.
- The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 197,232, a decrease of 9,867 (4.8 %) from the previous year.
- The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 298,343, a decrease of 14,909 (4.8 %) from the previous year.
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 119,512, a decrease of 4,783 (3.8 %) from the previous year.

"Labour Force Survey (Basic Tabulation)" (November 2019)
- The number of employed persons in November 2019 was 67.62 million, an increase of 530 thousand or 0.8 % from the previous year.
- The number of unemployed persons in November 2019 was 1.51 million, a decrease of 170 thousand or 10.1 % from the previous year.

The average of monthly consumption expenditures per household for November 2019 was 278,765 yen, down **1.4 % in nominal terms and down **2.0 % in real terms from the previous year. -
Income and Expenditures for Workers? Households
The average of monthly income per household stood at 475,548 yen, up **2.5 % in nominal terms and up **1.9 % in real terms from the previous year.
The average of consumption expenditures per household was 303,986 yen, down **0.8 % in nominal terms and down **1.4 % in real terms from the previous year.
