Participants in the ?Mr. ISHIBASHI Nobuo Memorial International Exchange Program? by SINFONICA visited the Statistics Bureau of Japan

From September 4 to September 11, 13 participants from Southeast and South Asian countries in the ?Mr. ISHIBASHI Nobuo Memorial International Exchange Program? by the Statistical Information Institute for Consulting and Analysis (SINFONICA) visited the Statistics Bureau of Japan as part of the training program. They received lectures on the ?Population Census,? ?Family Income and Expenditure Survey,? ?Portal Site of Official Statistics (e-Stat) and Statistical GIS,? and several other topics.

"Population Estimates" (March 1, 2019 (Final estimates), August 1, 2019 (Provisional estimates))

- As of August 1, 2019 (Provisional estimates)

The total population was 126.23 million, a decrease of 0.26 million (0.21 percent) from the previous year.

- As of March 1, 2019(Final estimates)

The total population was 126,248 thousand, a decrease of 245 thousand (0.19 percent) from the previous year.
The population under 15 years old was 15,334 thousand, a decrease of 187 thousand (1.21 percent) from the previous year.
The population aged 15 to 64 was 75,199 thousand, a decrease of 443 thousand (0.59 percent) from the previous year.
The population aged 65 and over was 35,716 thousand, an increase of 385 thousand (1.09 percent) from the previous year.

Japanese population was 123,993 thousand, a decrease of 445 thousand (0.36 percent) from the previous year.

The consumer price index for Japan in July 2019 was 101.6 (2015=100), up 0.5 % over the year before seasonal adjustment, and up 0.1 % from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.

"Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan" (July 2019)

The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 418,590 an increase of 25,553 (6.5 %) from the previous year.
The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 193,123, an increase of 12,586 (7.0 %) from the previous year.
The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 225,467, an increase of 12,967 (6.1 %) from the previous year.
The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 376,197, an increase of 20,772 (5.8 %) from the previous year.
The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 171,080, an increase of 9,334 (5.8 %) from the previous year.
The number of intra-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 205,117, an increase of 11,438 (5.9 %) from the previous year.

"Labour Force Survey (Basic Tabulation)"(July 2019)

The number of employed persons in July 2019 was 67.31 million, an increase of 710 thousand or 1.1 % from the previous year.
The number of unemployed persons in July 2019 was 1.56 million, a decrease of 160 thousand or 9.3 % from the previous year.
The unemployment rate, seasonally adjusted, was 2.2 %.

The average of monthly consumption expenditures per household for July 2019 was 288,026 yen, up **1.4 % in nominal terms and up **0.8 % in real terms from the previous year.
Income and Expenditures for Workers? Households
The average of monthly income per household stood at 626,488 yen, up **1.7 % in nominal terms and up **1.1 % in real terms from the previous year.
The average of consumption expenditures per household was 321,190 yen, up **3.6 % in nominal terms and up **3.0 % in real terms from the previous year.
