NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

Participants of the Training Course Programme by UNSIAP visited Statistics Bureau of Japan

  On June 21st, 21 participants of "Training Programme on Statistical Analysis of Disaggregated SDG Indicators for Inclusive Development Policies" by United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UNSIAP) visited the Statistics Bureau of Japan as part of the training course. They received lectures on "Outline of the Statistics Bureau", "Outline of Inter-Ministry Information System for Official Statistics" and so on.

  • The total population was 126.20 million, a decrease of 0.27 million (0.21 percent) from the previous year.

<Total Population>

  • The total population was 126,435 thousand, a decrease of 260 thousand (0.21 percent) from the previous year.
  • The population under 15 years old was 15,387 thousand, a decrease of 177 thousand (1.13 percent) from the previous year.
  • The population aged 15 to 64 was 75,437 thousand, a decrease of 480 thousand (0.63 percent) from the previous year.
  • The population aged 65 and over was 35,611 thousand, an increase of 396 thousand (1.13 percent) from the previous year.

  • The sales per establishment for January-March 2019 increased by 3.0 % in ?Manufacturing? and 5.4 % in ?Services?, decreased by 9.2 % in ?Wholesale and retail trade? and 4.6 % in ?Accommodations and food services?, respectively over the previous year (corresponding period).
  • The net operating profit per establishment for January-March 2019 increased by 14.9 % in ?Manufacturing?, 5.2 % in ?Accommodations and food services?, decreased by 25.0 % in ?Wholesale and retail trade?, 0.8 % in ?Services?, respectively over the previous year (corresponding period).

Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan (April 2019)

  • The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 767,021, an increase of 5,200 (0.7 %) from the previous year.
  • The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 420,348, an increase of 9,072 (2.2 %) from the previous year.
  • The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 346,673, a decrease of 3,872 (1.1 %) from the previous year.
  • The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 705,182, a decrease of 6,977 (1.0 %) from the previous year.
