NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

The 3rd Statistical Delegation from Mongolia visited the Statistics Bureau of Japan

From January 28 to February 2, 2019, the 3rd Statistical Delegation from Mongolia, headed by Mr. Zayakhuu TSERENDULAM, Director of Municipal Statistics Department, National Statistical Office of Mongolia (NSO) came to Japan to learn Japanese experiences on Statistical GIS and Portal Site of Official Statistics (e-Stat).

During the visit, they exchanged greetings with the Director General of SBJ, and received briefings on ?Outline of Inter-Ministry Information System for Official Statistics and Statistics in Maps (Statistical GIS),? ?Outline of Census Mapping System (CMS)? and so on.

On January 31, the delegation also visited the Chiba Prefectural Government Office, and received information on the statistical activities of the local government.

Additionally, on February 1, they paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Hideo ONISHI, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications.

The visit is based on the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between NSO and SBJ, which was signed on February 9, 2017 to establish the basis for in depth cooperation between both sides in the area of official statistics and other related fields of mutual interests.

The total population was 126.32 million, a decrease of 0.27 million (0.22 percent) from the previous year.

- As of August 1, 2018 (Final estimates)

The total population was 126,496 thousand, a decrease of 259 thousand (0.20 percent) from the previous year.
The population under 15 years old was 15,463 thousand, a decrease of 178 thousand (1.14 percent) from the previous year.
The population aged 15 to 64 was 75,525 thousand, a decrease of 527 thousand (0.69 percent) from the previous year.
The population aged 65 and over was 35,508 thousand, an increase of 447 thousand (1.27 percent) from the previous year.

Japanese population was 124,353 thousand, a decrease of 416 thousand (0.33 percent) from the previous year.

Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan (December 2018)

The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 348,269, an increase of 6,924 (2.0 %) from the previous year.
The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 146,145, an increase of 5,223 (3.7 %) from the previous year.
The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 202,124, an increase of 1,701 (0.8 %) from the previous year.
The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 312,602, an increase of 3,683 (1.2 %) from the previous year.
The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 127,839, an increase of 3,496 (2.8 %) from the previous year.
The number of intra-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 184,763, an increase of 187 (0.1 %) from the previous year.

Annual Report on Internal Migration in Japan (2018)

The number of inter-prefectural migrants was 2,535,601, an increase of 30,537 from the previous year.
The number of positive net-migration was increased in 8 prefectures.
The number of positive net-migration for Tokyo Area was 139,868, increased by 14,338 persons.
27.9 percent of municipalities in Japan had positive net-migration.
As for Japanese migrants, Tokyo area had positive net-migration for the 23rd consecutive year. Both Nagoya area and Osaka area had negative net-migration for the 6th consecutive year.

The number of employed persons in December 2018 was 66.56 million, an increase of 1.14 million or 1.7 % from the previous year.
The number of unemployed persons in December 2018 was 1.59 million, a decrease of 150 thousand or 8.6 % from the previous year.
The unemployment rate, seasonally adjusted, was 2.4 %.
