The 4th Statistical Delegation from Vietnam visited the Statistics Bureau of Japan

From December 11 to 15, 2018, the 4th Statistical Delegation from Vietnam, headed by Dr. Nguyen Bich Lam, Director-General, General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO) came to Japan to exchange opinions with SBJ on the introduction of a Japanese ICT system for official statistics into the GSO.

During the visit, they exchanged greetings with the Director General of SBJ, and received briefings on several topics related to the ICT system: ?Online Survey System,? ?Outline of Inter-Ministry Information System for Official Statistics (IMISOS),? ?Operation and Management of IMISOS? and so on.

On December 13, the delegation also visited the Chiba Prefectural Government Office, and paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Kensaku MORITA, the Governor of Chiba Prefecture and received information on the statistical activities of the local government.

Additionally, on December 14, they paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Junji SUZUKI, State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications and Mr. Toshihiko WAKO, Vice-Minister for Policy Coordination, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

The visit is based on the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between GSO and SBJ which was signed on January 14, 2015 to establish the basis for in depth cooperation between both sides in the area of official statistics and other related fields of mutual interests.

- As of November 1, 2018 (Provisional estimates)

The total population was 126.45 million, a decrease of 0.27 million (0.21 percent) from the previous year.

- As of June 1, 2018 (Final estimates)

The total population was 126,509 thousand, a decrease of 257 thousand (0.20 percent) from the previous year.
The population under 15 years old was 15,484 thousand, a decrease of 179 thousand (1.14 percent) from the previous year.
The population aged 15 to 64 was 75,581 thousand, a decrease of 540 thousand (0.71 percent) from the previous year.
The population aged 65 and over was 35,445 thousand, an increase of 462 thousand (1.32 percent) from the previous year.

Japanese population was 124,331 thousand, a decrease of 409 thousand (0.33 percent) from the previous year.

Unincorporated Enterprise Survey (Trend survey)(July to September 2018)

The sales per establishment for July-September 2018 increased by 4.1 % in ?Services?, decreased by 9.9 % in ?Manufacturing?, 8.5 % in ?Wholesale and retail trade? and 4.3 % in ?Accommodations and food services?, respectively over the previous year (corresponding period).
The net operating profit per establishment for July-September 2018 increased by 2.9 % in ?Services?, decreased by 0.2 % in ?Manufacturing?, 21.5 % in ?Wholesale and retail trade? and 12.9 % in ?Accommodations and food services?, respectively over the previous year (corresponding period).

The consumer price index for Japan in October 2018 was 102.0 (2015=100), up 1.4 % over the year before seasonal adjustment, and up 0.2 % from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.

"Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan" (October 2018)

The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 414,928 an increase of 26,678 (6.9 %) from the previous year.
The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 186,337, an increase of 11,645 (6.7 %) from the previous year.
The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 228,591, an increase of 15,033 (7.0 %) from the previous year.
The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 368,708, an increase of 18,339 (5.2 %) from the previous year.
The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 163,296, an increase of 7,349 (4.7 %) from the previous year.
The number of intra-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 205,412, an increase of 10,990 (5.7 %) from the previous year.

The consumer price index for Ku-area of Tokyo in November 2018 (preliminary) was 101.4 (2015=100), up 0.8 % over the year before seasonal adjustment, and the same level as the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.

"Labour Force Survey (Basic Tabulation)" (October 2018)

The number of employed persons in October 2018 was 67.25 million, an increase of 1.44 million or 2.2 % from the previous year.
The number of unemployed persons in October 2018 was 1.63 million, a decrease of 180 thousand or 9.9 % from the previous year.
The unemployment rate, seasonally adjusted, was 2.4 %.
