Participants in the ?Mr. Nobuo ISHIBASHI Memorial International Exchange Program? by SINFONICA visited the Statistics Bureau of Japan

From August 29 to September 6, 10 participants from ASEAN countries in the ?Mr. Nobuo ISHIBASHI Memorial International Exchange Program? by the Statistical Information Institute for Consulting and Analysis (SINFONICA) visited the Statistics Bureau of Japan as part of the training program. They received lectures on the ?Population Census,? ?Labor Force Survey,? ?Family Income and Expenditure Survey,? ?Survey on Time Use and Leisure Activities? and several other topics.

- As of August 1, 2018 (Provisional estimates)

The total population was 126.49 million, a decrease of 0.27 million (0.21 percent) from the previous year.

- As of March 1, 2018 (Final estimates)

The total population was 126,493 thousand, a decrease of 262 thousand (0.21 percent) from the previous year.
The population under 15 years old was 15,521 thousand, a decrease of 181 thousand (1.15 percent) from the previous year.
The population aged 15 to 64 was 75,641 thousand, a decrease of 571 thousand (0.75 percent) from the previous year.
The population aged 65 and over was 35,330 thousand, an increase of 491 thousand (1.41 percent) from the previous year.

Japanese population was 124,438 thousand, a decrease of 393 thousand (0.31 percent) from the previous year.

Unincorporated Enterprise Survey (Trend survey) (April to June 2018)

The sales per establishment for April-June 2018 increased by 2.7 % in ?Accommodations and food services?, decreased by 3.6 % in ?Manufacturing?, 0.7 % in ?Wholesale and retail trade? and 1.5 % in ?Services?, respectively over the previous year (corresponding period).
The net operating profit per establishment for April-June 2018 increased by 7.2 % in ?Manufacturing?, 7.8 % in ?Wholesale and retail trade? and 2.9 % in ?Accommodations and food services?, decreased by 6.5 % in ?Services?, respectively over the previous year (corresponding period).

The consumer price index for Japan in July 2018 was 101.0 (2015=100), up 0.9 % over the year before seasonal adjustment, and up 0.3 % from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.

"Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan" (July 2018)

The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 393,037, an increase of 17,544 (4.7 %) from the previous year.
The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 180,537, an increase of 8,395 (4.9 %) from the previous year.
The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 212,500, an increase of 9,149 (4.5 %) from the previous year.
The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 355,425, an increase of 12,006 (3.5 %) from the previous year.
The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 161,746, an increase of 5,806 (3.7 %) from the previous year.
The number of intra-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 193,679, an increase of 6,200 (3.3 %) from the previous year.

"Labour Force Survey (Basic Tabulation)"(July 2018)

The number of employed persons in July 2018 was 66.60 million, an increase of 970 thousand or 1.5 % from the previous year.
The number of unemployed persons in July 2018 was 1.72 million, a decrease of 190 thousand or 9.9 % from the previous year.
The unemployment rate, seasonally adjusted, was 2.5 %.
