The 31st Chinese Statistical Mission to Japan

The 31st statistical mission from China, headed by Mr. Ning Jizhe, Commissioner, National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS), visited Japan from July 23 to 27, 2018.

The mission visited the Wakayama Prefectural Government on July 23. After a cordial welcome by the Vice-Governor, they exchanged experiences and information on the statistical activities and systems of local governments with prefectural officers. The mission also visited the Statistical Data Utilization Center.

On July 25, after exchanging greetings with the senior officials of the SBJ, they discussed with the SBJ staff: ?How to implement the economic census,? ?How to disseminate the results of the economic census,? and several other topics.

On July 26, the mission gave presentations on ?New Development in China?s Statistical Work? and ?Introduction of China?s 4th National Economic Census?.

On July 27, they visited Ms. Seiko Noda, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and had a talk with regard to issues of recent statistical circumstances.

Japan and China have been cooperating to dispatch and invite statistical missions almost every year since 1980. The main purpose of this program is to develop official statistics for both governments. The missions to date have discussed their experiences and challenges with regard to statistical issues, such as organization, surveys, tabulation and data provision, and circumstances of local statistical organizations.

The consumer price index for Japan in June 2018 was 100.9 (2015=100), up 0.7 % over the year before seasonal adjustment, and up 0.1 % from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.

The total population was 126.59 million, a decrease of 0.19 million (0.15 percent) from the previous year.

- As of February 1, 2018 (Final estimates)

The total population was 126,609 thousand, a decrease of 181 thousand (0.14 percent) from the previous year.
The population under 15 years old was 15,537 thousand, a decrease of 179 thousand (1.14 percent) from the previous year.
The population aged 15 to 64 was 75,781 thousand, a decrease of 515 thousand (0.67 percent) from the previous year.
The population aged 65 and over was 35,290 thousand, an increase of 513 thousand (1.47 percent) from the previous year.

Japanese population was 124,495 thousand, a decrease of 403 thousand (0.32 percent) from the previous year.

The consumer price index for Ku-area of Tokyo in July 2018 (preliminary) was 100.6 (2015=100), up 0.9 % over the year before seasonal adjustment, and up 0.3 % from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.

The number of employed persons in June 2018 was 66.87 million, an increase of 1.04 million or 1.6 % from the previous year.
The number of unemployed persons in June 2018 was 1.68 million, a decrease of 240 thousand or 12.5 % from the previous year.
The unemployment rate, seasonally adjusted, was 2.4 %

The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 343,513 a decrease of 9,601 (2.7 %) from the previous year.
The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 151,139, a decrease of 3,464 (2.2 %) from the previous year.
The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 192,374, a decrease of 6,137 (3.1 %) from the previous year.
The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 311,005, a decrease of 10,148 (3.2 %) from the previous year.
The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 135,008, a decrease of 3,569 (2.6 %) from the previous year.
The number of intra-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 175,997, a decrease of 6,579 (3.6 %) from the previous year.

Expenditures for Two-or-more-person Households
The average of monthly consumption expenditures per household for June 2018 was 267,641 yen, down **0.4 % in nominal terms and down **1.2 % in real terms from the previous year.
Income and Expenditures for Workers' Households
The average of monthly income per household stood at 808,716 yen, up **5.2 % in nominal terms and up **4.4 % in real terms from the previous year.
The average of consumption expenditures per household was 291,998 yen, down **2.2 % in nominal terms and down **3.0 % in real terms from the previous year.
