NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

Participants of the Training Course Programme by UNSIAP visited Statistics Bureau of Japan

  On June 1st, 18 participants of "Second Group Training Programme on Statistical Analysis of Disaggregated SDG Indicators for Inclusive Development Policies" by United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UNSIAP) visited the Statistics Bureau of Japan as part of the training course. They received lectures on "Outline of the Statistics Bureau", ?Offer of Investigation result and Recent situation about User Support? and so on.

  • The total population was 126.49 million, a decrease of 0.23 million (0.19 percent) from the previous year.

- As of December 1, 2017 (Final estimates)

<Total Population>

  • The total population was 126,695 thousand, a decrease of 223 thousand (0.18 percent) from the previous year.
  • The population under 15 years old was 15,563 thousand, a decrease of 182 thousand (1.15 percent) from the previous year.
  • The population aged 15 to 64 was 75,916 thousand, a decrease of 585 thousand (0.77 percent) from the previous year.
  • The population aged 65 and over was 35,215 thousand, an increase of 544 thousand (1.57 percent) from the previous year.

Unincorporated Enterprise Survey (Trend survey) (January to March 2018)

  • The sales per establishment for January-March 2018 increased by 11.0 % in ?Wholesale and retail trade? and 8.6 % in ?Accommodations and food services?, decreased by 13.7 % in ?Manufacturing? and 0.4 % in ?Services?, respectively over the previous year (corresponding period).
  • The net operating profit per establishment for January-March 2018 increased by 43.6 % in ?Wholesale and retail trade?, 4.3 % in ?Accommodations and food services?, 1.6 % in ?Services?, decreased by 16.7 % in ?Manufacturing?, respectively over the previous year (corresponding period).

"Labour Force Survey (Basic Tabulation)"(April 2018)

  • The number of employed persons in April 2018 was 66.71 million, an increase of 1.71 million or 2.6 % from the previous year.
  • The number of unemployed persons in April 2018 was 1.80 million, a decrease of 170 thousand or 8.6 % from the previous year.
  • The unemployment rate, seasonally adjusted, was 2.5 %.

"Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan" (April 2018)

  • The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 761,821, an increase of 12,043 (1.6 %) from the previous year.
  • The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 411,276, an increase of 7,227 (1.8 %) from the previous year.
  • The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 350,545, an increase of 4,816 (1.4 %) from the previous year.
  • The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 712,159, an increase of 10,101 (1.4 %) from the previous year.
  • The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 384,709, an increase of 6,638 (1.8 %) from the previous year.
