Overseas promotion of Statistics ICT System
In February 2018, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) prepared ?Open Up a New World Together,? a casebook of MIC?s collaborations around the world, which comprehensively summarizes case examples of international collaborations that contribute to resolving issues throughout the world.
The Statistics Bureau of MIC contributes to the advanced production and dissemination of statistics of other countries by facilitating the overseas expansion of the statistics ICT system called ?e-Stat lite? based on Japan?s current systems such as the online survey system that highly interest foreign countries.

"Current Population Estimates"(As of October 1st, 2017)
- The total population was 126,706 thousand, a decrease of 227 thousand compared with the previous year. The total population decreased for the seventh year in a row.
- The migration change of the Japanese population was positive for the first time in seven years, and that of the foreign population was positive for five consecutive years.
- The population aged 65 years old and over was 35,152 thousand (27.7 percent of the total population).

- The population aged 15 to 64 was 75,949 thousand, a decrease of 596 thousand (0.78 percent) from the previous year.
- The population aged 65 and over was 35,190 thousand, an increase of 558 thousand (1.61 percent) from the previous year.

"Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan" (March 2018)
- The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 913,555, a decrease of 45,221 (4.7 %) from the previous year.
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 495,830, a decrease of 16,946 (3.3 %) from the previous year.
- The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 417,725, a decrease of 28,275 (6.3 %) from the previous year.
- The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 860,107, a decrease of 45,482 (5.0 %) from the previous year.
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 466,134, a decrease of 17,617 (3.6 %) from the previous year.

The average of monthly income per household stood at 453,676 yen, down **2.6 % in nominal terms and down **3.8 % in real terms from the previous year.
