The 29th Korean Statistical Mission to Japan

The 29th statistical mission from Republic of Korea, headed by Mr. EUN Sun Hyun, Director-General for Statistical Data Hub Bureau, Statistics Korea (KOSTAT), visited Japan from March 12 to 17, 2018.

After exchanging greetings with the senior officials of the SBJ, they discussed several topics with the SBJ staff: 'Consumer Price Index', 'Producing Statistics utilizing Administrative Data', and 'Operating and managing the Statistics Library and the Exhibition Center' etc.

On March 14, they paid a courtesy visit to Ms. Seiko NODA, Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications.

After that, the mission visited the Wakayama Prefectural Government (Research and Statistics Division) and exchanged information on the statistical activities of local governments.

Japan and Korea have been cooperating to dispatch and invite statistical missions almost every year since 1982. The main purpose of this program is to develop official statistics for both governments. The missions have included discussions on their experiences and challenges with regard to statistical issues, such as organization, surveys, tabulation and dissemination, and circumstances of local statistical organizations.

Video Game hardware (excluding software): up 121.5 % in nominal terms and 121.3 % in real terms
Mobile telephones unit prices (cell phone, PHS): up 46.4 % in nominal terms and 46.1 % in real terms
Air conditioners: up 13.6 % in nominal terms and 8.9 % in real terms

Women's one-piece dresses and suits: down 26.5 % in nominal terms and 26.0 % in real terms
House-related equipping/ construction/repair costs: down 8.3 % in nominal terms and 8.7 % in real terms
Automobiles (new): down 8.1 % in nominal terms and 8.2 % in real terms

Family Income and Expenditure Survey (2017 Yearly Average)

Expenditures for Two-or-more-person Households
The yearly average of monthly consumption expenditures per household for 2017 was 283,027 yen, up 0.3 % in nominal terms but down 0.3 % in real terms from the previous year.
Income and Expenditures for Workers' Households
The yearly average of monthly income per household stood at 533,820 yen, up 1.3 % in nominal terms and up 0.7 % in real terms from the previous year.
The yearly average of monthly consumption expenditures per household was 313,057 yen, up 1.1 % in nominal terms and up 0.5 % in real terms from the previous year.

The total population was 126.56 million, a decrease of 0.23 million (0.18 percent) from the previous year.

- As of September 1, 2017 (Final estimates)

The total population was 126,678 thousand, a decrease of 225 thousand (0.18 percent) from the previous year.
The population under 15 years old was 15,607 thousand, a decrease of 189 thousand (1.20 percent) from the previous year.
The population aged 15 to 64 was 75,965 thousand, a decrease of 598 thousand (0.78 percent) from the previous year.
The population aged 65 and over was 35,106 thousand, an increase of 562 thousand (1.63 percent) from the previous year.

Japanese population was 124,678 thousand, a decrease of 367 thousand (0.29 percent) from the previous year.

Unincorporated Enterprise Survey (Trend survey) (October to December 2017)

The sales per establishment for October-December 2017 increased by 1.5 % in ?Manufacturing ?, 4.9 % in ?Wholesale and retail trade?, 6.9 % in ?Accommodations and food services? and 7.2 % in ?Services?, respectively over the previous year (corresponding period).
The net operating profit per establishment for October-December 2017 increased by 11.9 % in ?Manufacturing?,7.2 % in ?Accommodations and food services?, 10.1 % in ?Services? and decreased by 2.0 % in?Wholesale and retail trade? respectively over the previous year (corresponding period).

"Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan" (January 2018)

The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 328,372, an increase of 7,210 (2.2 %) from the previous year.
The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 146,660, an increase of 5,185 (3.7 %) from the previous year.
The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 181,712, an increase of 2,025 (1.1 %) from the previous year.
The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 296,517, an increase of 1,701 (0.6 %) from the previous year.
The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 130,059, an increase of 1,785 (1.4 %) from the previous year.
The number of intra-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 166,458, a decrease of 84 (0.1 %) from the previous year.

"Labour Force Survey (Basic Tabulation)"(January 2018)

The number of employed persons in January 2018 was 65.62 million, an increase of 920 thousand or 1.4 % from the previous year.
The number of unemployed persons in January 2018 was 1.59 million, a decrease of 380 thousand or 19.3 % from the previous year.
The unemployment rate, seasonally adjusted, was 2.4 %.

Expenditures for Two-or-more-person Households
The average of monthly consumption expenditures per household for January 2018 was 289,703 yen, up **3.6 % in nominal terms and up **1.9 % in real terms from the previous year.
Income and Expenditures for Workers' Households
The average of monthly income per household stood at 442,129 yen, down **1.7 % in nominal terms and down **3.3 % in real terms from the previous year.
The average of consumption expenditures per household was 317,659 yen, up **3.1 % in nominal terms and up **1.4 % in real terms from the previous year.

Consumption Trend Index(2018 January)

The Statistics Bureau of Japan started to publish consumption trend index (CTI) as a reference index of Family Income and Expenditure Survey results from 2018 January results.
