NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

The 3rd Statistical Delegation from Vietnam visited the Statistics Bureau of Japan

  The 3rd Statistical delegation from Vietnam, headed by Mr. Nguyen Bich Lam, Director-General, General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), visited SBJ from October 15 to 21, 2017, to learn Japanese experiences in implementing the 2019 Population and Housing Census of Vietnam.

  During the visit, they exchanged greetings with the senior officials of SBJ, and were given information on several topics by the SBJ staff: Outline of the Statistics Bureau, Sampling method of the Labour Force Survey, Outline of Inter-Ministry Information System for Official Statistics, Outline of Online Survey System, Outline of the Population Census, Demarcation of Enumeration Districts of Population Census, and System of Online Population Census 2015, etc.

  On October 19, they visited the Statistical Research and Training Institute (SRTI), and exchanged greetings with the senior officials of SRTI, and were given information on Outline of SRTI.

  Additionally, on October 20, they paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Shuji YAMADA, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications and Mr. Toshihiko WAKO, Vice-Minister for Policy Coordination for Internal Affairs and Communications.


  Their visit is based on the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between GSO and SBJ, which was signed on January 14, 2015, to establish the basis for in depth cooperation between both sides in the area of statistics and other related fields of mutual interests.

  • The population under 15 years old was 15,673 thousand, a decrease of 184 thousand (1.16 percent) from the previous year.
  • The population aged 15 to 64 was 76,103 thousand, a decrease of 612 thousand (0.80 percent) from the previous year.
  • The population aged 65 and over was 34,948 thousand, an increase of 595 thousand (1.73 percent) from the previous year.

Consumer Price Index (2015-base) (Japan September 2017, Ku-area of Tokyo October 2017(preliminary))

  • The consumer price index for Japan in September 2017 was 100.5 (2015=100), up 0.7% over the year before seasonal adjustment, and the same level as the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.
  • The consumer price index for Ku-area of Tokyo in October 2017 (preliminary) was 100.1 (2015=100), down 0.2% over the year before seasonal adjustment, and down 0.1% from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.

"Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan" (September 2017)

  • The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 344,877, a decrease of 187 (0.1 %) from the previous year.
  • The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 153,791, an increase of 2,237 (1.5 %) from the previous year.
  • The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 191,086, a decrease of 2,424 (1.3 %) from the previous year.
  • The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 310,347, a decrease of 4,502 (1.4 %) from the previous year.

Family Income and Expenditure Survey (Two-or-more-person Households: September 2017)

  • Expenditures for Two-or-more-person Households

    The average of monthly consumption expenditures per household for September 2017 was 268,802 yen, up 0.6% in nominal terms but down 0.3% in real terms from the previous year.

  • Income and Expenditures for Workers' Households

    The average of monthly income per household stood at 437,497 yen, up 3.0% in nominal terms and up 2.1% in real terms from the previous year.

    The average of consumption expenditures per household was 295,211 yen, down 0.4% in nominal terms and down 1.3% in real terms from the previous year.
