NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

International Cooperation in Statistics

On the basis of statistical skills that we have cultivated throughout our long history, we have carried out a wide variety of cooperative activities in order to contribute to the development of various countries, including those in the Asia-Pacific region, by enhancing statistical skills.
The SBJ dispatches statistical experts to other countries for extended periods upon requests for technical cooperation as part of the international cooperation programs of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and also invites trainees in response to requests from foreign countries and provides lectures for them. By carrying out effective technical cooperation, we have contributed to the success of countries' various statistical surveys, such as Population Census and Economic Census.
In recent years we have cooperated with the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) Cambodia, from 2005 to 2015, for statistical surveys, including the first-ever Economic Census in Cambodia. Since 2016, we have cooperated with the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on "Project on Capacity Development for the Implementation of Economic Census 2018" in Nepal and the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on the "Project for Developing Statistical Quality System at CAPMAS" in Egypt.
By using the most advanced ICT in the world, the SBJ has constructed systems for official statistics, such as online response systems, statistical data processing systems and so on. Also we have provided the 'One-Stop-Service' for statistical information (Portal Site of Official Statistics of Japan [e-Stat]), which has an Application Programming Interface (API) function, and the statistics Geographic Information System (GIS) specialized in small-region analysis.
We hope that statistical technology on the basis of our experience will be adopted by other countries. With this view, we will plan to introduce these systems to foreign countries according to their needs. Through these efforts, we would like to contribute to the development of statistical technology for implementing surveys and disseminating statistical results in these countries.
