The Seventh Global Forum on Gender Statistics, organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) under the guidance of the Inter-Agency and Expert Group on Gender Statistics (IAEG-GS), was held in Tokyo from 14 to 16 November 2018.

The State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, Mr. Junji Suzuki made the opening remarks, followed by welcome video messages from Mr. Stefan Schweinfest, Director, UNSD. In the three-day event, nine sessions were organized by subject such as economy, labour, climate change, human rights, and several presentations on compilation, utilization and analysis of gender statistics were delivered there.

The Forum brought together over 170 producers and users of gender statistics from national statistics offices, other governmental and international agencies, academia, civil society and the donor community, and provided a platform to discuss the way forward to improve data and evidence for gender policies given the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
