For Those We Ask to Answer the Survey

Due to the impacts of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), we imagine you are all having difficult times in your daily lives. We would like to express our utmost appreciation for your understanding of the Labour Force Survey conducted by the Statistics Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications through prefectural governments.

The Labour Force Survey is conducted to provide accurate information on the latest trend of employment and unemployment, including working hours of employed persons, situation of absence from work, and plays a critical role as a basic reference for analyzing the impact of COVID-19. The results of the survey are utilized as reference materials for improving the situation regarding employment and unemployment problems.

The survey is conducted as a Fundamental Statistical Survey (statistical survey with particular importance) based on the Statistics Act, covering about 40,000 households throughout Japan selected based on a certain statistical sampling method. We would like to ask for your cooperation in answering this survey. In order to clarify monthly and yearly changes, we are asking for you to answer for four months in total, namely the first month your household is in sample and next month, and the same two months of next year. We regret your trouble amid these difficult times, but would like to ask for your kind cooperation in submitting your answers via the internet or by filling out the paper questionnaire sheet.

It is strictly prohibited under the Statistics Act to divulge any information obtained through this survey with third parties. We expend all possible means for the protection of private information, so we would like to request you to answer the questions frankly and honestly.
