II-2 By Industrial Classification for Enterprises
The number of enterprises in "Wholesale and Retail Trade," "Construction," "Manufacturing" and "Services, N.E.C." accounted for about 80 % of the total number of enterprises.
The number of enterprises by major industrial group was the highest in "Wholesale and Retail Trade" with 442,000 enterprises (29.2 % of the total enterprises), followed by "Construction" with 280,000 (18.5 %), "Manufacturing" with 259,000 (17.1 %) and "Services, N.E.C." with 212,000 (14.0 %), which in total accounted for about 80 % of all enterprises (Table II-2).
More than two-fold increase in "Medical, Health Care and Welfare."
Compared with 2001, the number of enterprises increased in "Medical, Health Care and Welfare" by 8,000 enterprises (121.7 %), "Information and Communications" by 2,000 (7.4 %) and "Finance and Insurance" by 2,000 (12.1 %), while it decreased in "Wholesale and Retail Trade" by 51,000 (10.4 %) and "Manufacturing" by 34,000 (11.5 %) (Table II-2).
