Table I-6 Number of New/Closed Establishments by Major Industrial Group (Private, 2006) (*)
*1 New establishments are establishments that existed as of the date of the Census which did not exist on the date of the last Census. They include establishments that had been created or relocated from other places from the day after the last Census.
*2 Closed establishments are establishments that existed as of the date of the last Census which did not exist as of the date of the Census. They include establishments that had been closed or relocated to other places from the day after the last Census.
* Among establishments classified as "Institutions of National and Local Public Organizations" at the 2001 Census, incorporated administrative agencies, Japan Post, national university corporations and others had been classified under "Incorporated Administrative Agency, etc." and thus were counted as new private establishments at this Census.
Therefore, these establishments were counted as new ones in the groups including incorporated administrative agencies: "Compound Services" such as Japan Post; "Education, Learning Support" such as national university corporations; and other groups.
By major industrial group, the opening rate (*3) was the highest in "Compound Services" (71.3 %), followed by "Information and Communications" (49.9 %), "Medical, Health Care and Welfare" (39.5 %) and others.
The closure rate (*4) was the highest in "Information and Communications" (50.1 %), followed by "Finance and Insurance" (37.9 %), "Eating and Drinking Places, Accommodations" (36.6 %) and others. "Information and Communications" thereby showed a high rate of both opening and closure (Table I-7, Fig. I-8).
