The Economic Census is a census of Japan’s economy. The subjects of the census are all enterprises and establishments in Japan, including companies and shops.
The census will be conducted February 1, 2012.
The Economic Census conducted in 2009 was a Basic Census, while this one is an Economic Census for Business Activity. The Basic Census collected basic information such as names and addresses of companies and shops.
The Economic Census for Business Activity also surveys information on economic activities, such as the sales figures of companies and shops.
Through today, a variety of surveys have been conducted to learn about the Japanese economy in detail, including surveys of industrial statistics. However, now a number of these surveys have been discontinued or suspended and combined into the Economic Census for Business Activity. This has made it possible to lessen the burden on the public of responding to questionnaire forms while still maintaining the precision of statistical data.
