The 2026 Survey on Time Use and Leisure Activities to be conducted
The SBJ will conduct the Survey on Time Use and Leisure Activities as of October 20, 2026. The Survey on Time Use and Leisure Activities aims to obtain comprehensive data on citizens' time allocation and leisure activities in order to clarify the current status of their lifestyles. The SBJ will release the results sequentially after September 2027.
This survey has been conducted every five years since 1976, and the 2026 survey is the eleventh of its kind. For this survey, this year marks the 50th anniversary of its inception.
The 30th Japanese Statistical Mission to Korea
The 30th Japanese Statistical Mission to Korea headed by Mr. AKO Taijiro, Director-General, Statistical Survey Department, SBJ visited Korea from 24 to 28 August 2026.
They had discussions with the staff of Ministry of Data and Statistics of Korea (MODS) concerning the Experiences from the Population Census, Establishing Statistical Registers and Providing Them as Microdata, Using AI in Statistical Information Services and Overview of the NSTAC.
In addition, the mission visited Busan City Government and exchanged information about statistical works in local government.
Japan and Korea have been cooperating with each other through the exchange of statistical missions almost every year since 1982. The missions aim to develop official statistics of both countries, and have served as opportunities to discuss the experiences and challenges between the two offices with regard to a wide range of statistical issues, such as organization, surveys, tabulation and data provision, and circumstances of local statistical organizations.

Participants of the "Mr. ISHIBASHI Nobuo Memorial International Exchange Program" by SINFONICA visited the SBJ
From August 26 to September 2, fourteen participants from Asian countries of the "Mr. ISHIBASHI Nobuo Memorial International Exchange Program" by the Statistical Information Institute for Consulting and Analysis (SINFONICA) visited the SBJ as part of the training program. They received lectures on the "Population Census," "Labour Force Survey," "Family Income and Expenditure Survey," "Portal Site of Official Statistics (e-Stat) and Statistical GIS" and several other topics.
