The second tabulation of the 2025 Annual Business Survey was released
The Statistics Bureau of Japan (SBJ), Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and the Research and Statistics Department (RSD), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry jointly and severally released the second tabulation of the 2025 Annual Business Survey (ABS) on July 29, 2026 which was conducted in June, 2025.
This survey is conducted in order to identify the structure of all industries, such as their added value, and contribute to improving the precision of the National Accounts Statistics, and to grasp the actual situation in the interim year of the Economic Census for Business Activity implemented every five years.
This second tabulation includes the results on enterprises, etc. of all industries for ABS (All Industry Enterprise), and the results on establishments of Manufacturing Industry for ABS (Manufacturing Establishment) following the first tabulation of the preliminary results. The SBJ published the former results.
[Summary of the Results of ABS (All Industry Enterprise)]
- The amount of sales in Japan in 2024 was 1,968.3232 trillion yen. Looking at the amount of sales by industry division, the amount of sales was the largest for "Wholesale and Retail Trade" at 542.2412 trillion yen, followed by "Manufacturing" at 475.4084 trillion yen.
- The amount of added value in Japan in 2024 was 359.2965 trillion yen. Looking at the amount of added value by industry division, the amount was the largest for "Manufacturing" at 86.8961 trillion yen, followed by "Wholesale and Retail Trade" at 51.8469 trillion yen.

Open Day with Children's Summer Program
In July 2026, the Japanese central ministries and agencies held an Open Day for Kids for children under junior high school age that offered introductions of their work and office tours. The purpose of this event is to provide children with opportunities to learn about society during their summer vacation, while also promoting a better understanding of the policies of the central government. The SBJ also participated in this event, promoting the Survey on Time Use and Leisure Activities scheduled to be conducted as of October 20, 2026. It also offered a special program that enabled younger participants to gain hands-on experience in searching for statistical data and learning about statistics through educational websites, thereby gaining familiarity with official statistics.
Participants of the Training Course by SIAP visited Statistics Bureau of Japan
On July 15, 2026, nine participants of "Training Course on Theory and Practices in Official Statistics for Monitoring SDGs" by United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) visited the SBJ as part of the training course. They received lectures on "Overview of the Statistics Bureau," "Outline of Inter-Ministry Information System for Official Statistics and Online Survey System" and so on.
