New Director-General of the Statistics Bureau
On July 1, 2025, Mr. NAGASHIMA Katsutoshi was appointed as the Director-General of Statistics Bureau of Japan (SBJ), succeeding Mr. IWASA Tetsuya.
In his career, Mr. NAGASHIMA contributed to various statistical activities. Most recently, he served as the Director-General, Statistical Survey Department of SBJ, from July 2023 to June 2025, and he also have served as the Director-General, Statistical Research and Training Institute, from June 2022 to July 2023.
The 31st Korean Statistical Mission to Japan
The 31st statistical mission from Republic of Korea, headed by Mr. Seongheon SONG, Director General, Statistical Human Resources Development Institute (SHRDI), Statistics Korea (KOSTAT), visited Japan from June 9 to 13, 2025.
Following an exchange of greetings with the senior officials of the SBJ, they discussed several topics with the SBJ officials on "National statistics system" furthermore, with officials from Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and National Institute of Population and Social Security Research on "Statistics on causes of death" and "Marital fertility rates."
They also discussed on "Functions and roles of the statistical research and training institutes" at the Statistical Research and Training Institute (SRTI).
After that, they visited Statistical Data Utilization Center in Wakayama Prefecture and discussed "Introduction to the Statistical Data Center."
