Results of the Survey of Research and Development was released

  The SBJ released the latest results of the Survey of Research and Development on December 13, 2024.

- R&D Expenditure
  Japan's total expenditure on R&D during fiscal year (FY) 2023 stood at 22.05 trillion yen, a 6.5 percent increase from the previous fiscal year. This figure is the highest ever.
  Expenditure on R&D as a percentage of GDP was 3.70 percent, a 0.05 percentage point increase from the previous fiscal year.

- R&D Personnel
  As of March 31, 2024, the total number of researchers is 907,400, a 0.3 percent decrease from the previous year. It dropped for the first time in eight years.
  The R&D expenditures in FY2023 per researcher was 24.30 million yen, a 6.9 percent increase from the previous fiscal year. It has increased for three consecutive years.
  The number of female researchers is 182,800 and dropped for the first time in 43 years, however the percent of the total number of researchers was 18.5%, the highest ever.

The 4th Mongolia Statistical Delegation to Japan

  The 4th Statistical Delegation from Mongolia, headed by Mr. Lkhagva Byambasuren, Director-General, Administration Department, the National Statistical Office of Mongolia (NSO), visited Japan from December 16 to 20, 2024. Following an exchange of greetings with the senior officials of the SBJ, they discussed several topics with the SBJ staff on "Outline of the SBJ," "Enterprise Survey," and "Using administrative registration for official statistics" etc. The delegation visited Statistical Research and Training Institute (SRTI) and discussed concerning "Outline of Statistical Research and Training Institute."
