Conducting of the 2024 National Survey of Family Income, Consumption and Wealth
The SBJ is conducting the 2024 National Survey of Family Income, Consumption and Wealth from October to November, 2024. It aims to comprehensively grasp the state of consumption, income, assets, and liabilities of households, and to clarify household income distribution and consumption level and structure, as well as other matters nationally and by region.
The results are expected to be utilized by national and local governments for important administrative policies such as examination of the amounts of national and welfare pensions and standards for calculating the nursing insurance premium.
This survey has been conducted every five years since 1959, and the 2024 survey is the fourteenth of its kind.
Establishment of the Headquarters for Implementation of the 2025 Population Census
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), to which the Statistics Bureau belongs, established the "Headquarters for Implementation of the 2025 Population Census" on October 25, 2024. This Headquarters is headed by the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and facilitates the smooth and proper implementation of the Census.
The Population Census has been conducted as the most fundamental and important statistical survey since the first census in 1920. The census scheduled as of October 1, 2025, will be the 22nd of its kind.
For the 2025 Census, the MIC focuses its efforts on the following:
1. Active promotion of easy and convenient online responses
2. Enhancing publicity and strengthening public engagement
Events related to "Statistics Day" in Japan
"Statistics Day" in Japan is celebrated on October 18, after the date when the Cabinet Order for the first modern statistical table in Japan was promulgated.
Every year around Statistics Day, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), in cooperation with other ministries, local governments and other related organizations, holds events to deepen the general public's interest in and understanding of the importance of statistics, and to obtain greater public cooperation in carrying out official statistical surveys. Related events this year are as follows:

- The 72nd National Competition of Graphic Statistics
- The Statistical Data & Graph Fair 2024
- The 72nd National Statistics Symposium
Exchange Seminar between U.S. Census Bureau and SBJ
On November 5, three statistical officials from the U.S. Census Bureau visited the SBJ and had an exchange seminar. Both sides shared their experiences and exchanged opinions regarding economic statistics.
