New release of the "Social Indicators by Prefecture 2023"
The "Social Indicators by Prefecture" is a report based on prefecture-specific primary data on statistical indicators which are set using basic data developed for the System of Social and Demographic Statistics of Japan.
The 2023 edition includes 579 social indicators and 549 items of basic data.
This report is published annually in February and the latest version is accessible at the following website.

"Population Estimates" (Final estimates, Japan, August 1, 2022)
- The total population was 125, 082 thousand, a decrease of 551 thousand (0.44%) from the previous year.
- The population under 15 years old was 14, 563 thousand, a decrease of 266 thousand (1.79%) from the previous year.
- The population aged 15 to 64 was 74, 263 thousand, a decrease of 352 thousand (0. 47%) from the previous year.
- The population aged 65 and over was 36, 256 thousand, an increase of 67 thousand (0.19%) from the previous year.
- The Japanese population was 122,238 thousand, a decrease of 660 thousand (0.54%) from the previous year.
