New release of the Statistical Handbook of Japan 2022
The Statistical Handbook of Japan 2022 is a government publication offered in English, designed to provide a clear and coherent overview of present-day Japan through statistics. It provides statistical tables, figures, maps, and photographs to portray the current situation in Japan from a variety of perspectives, including demographics, economic and social trends, culture, and so on.
This Handbook is published annually in September and the latest version is accessible at the following website.

"Population Estimates" (Final estimates, Japan, April 1, 2022)
- The total population was 125,071 thousand, a decrease of 783 thousand (0.62%) from the previous year.
- The population under 15 years old was 14,649 thousand, a decrease of 259 thousand (1.74%) from the previous year.
- The population aged 15 to 64 was 74,184 thousand, a decrease of 627 thousand (0.84%) from the previous year.
- The population aged 65 and over was 36,238 thousand, an increase of 103 thousand (0.28%) from the previous year.
- The Japanese population was 122,388 thousand, a decrease of 662 thousand (0.54%) from the previous year.

- The total population was 124.75 million, a decrease of 0.81 million (0.65%) from the previous year.

- The consumer price index for Japan was 102.7 (2020=100), up 3.0% over the year before seasonal adjustment, and up 0.3% from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.

- The number of internal migrants was 401,973, an increase of 31,408 (8.5%) from the previous year.
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants was 186,332, an increase of 18,730 (11.2%) from the previous year.
- The number of intra-prefectural migrants was 215,641, an increase of 12,678 (6.2%) from the previous year.
- The number of internal migrants was 357,644, an increase of 16,794 (4.9%) from the previous year.
