2022 Employment Status Survey to be conducted
The Statistics Bureau of Japan (SBJ) will conduct the Employment Status Survey as of October 1, 2022.
The Employment Status Survey has been conducted every three years between 1956 and 1982 and every five years since 1982. The 2022 Employment Status Survey will be the 18th survey.
The Employment Status Survey aims to clarify the differences in the employment status of regular and non-regular employees, the employment statuses of senior and younger workers, and the relationship between childcare/nursing care and employment, both nationally and regionally.
The 2022 survey covers 1.08 million household members 15 years old or older in approximately 540,000 households.
The 2022 survey includes the following items to be surveyed:
- A. All household members
Sex, year and month of birth, educational status, whether providing childcare, and whether providing family care - B. Persons engaged in work
Employment contract term, contents of work, working hours per week, and reason for taking the present job - C. Persons not engaged in work
Whether wishing to work, kind of job wished for, and whether seeking a job
The enumerators distribute questionnaires to each household to be surveyed in late September. Questionnaires are completed by a household member or head of household 15 years old or older, and submitted via the internet, or paper questionnaires are submitted by mail or collected by the enumerators.
The survey results will be released on the website of the SBJ, as well as in reports, sequentially from July 2023 onward.
