New release of the "Social Indicators by Prefecture 2022"
The "Social Indicators by Prefecture" is a report based on prefecture-specific primary data on statistical indicators which are set using basic data developed for the System of Social and Demographic Statistics of Japan.
The 2022 edition includes 581 social indicators and 549 items of basic data.
This report is published annually in February and the latest version is accessible at the following website.

"Population Estimates" (Final estimates, August 1, 2021)
- The total population was 125,633 thousand.
- The population under 15 years old was 14,829 thousand (11.8% of the total population).
- The population aged 15 to 64 was 74, 615 thousand (59.4% of the total population).
- The population aged 65 and over was 36,189 thousand (28.8% of the total population).
- Japanese population was 122,898 thousand.

- The total population was 125.44 million, a decrease of 0.63 million (0.50%) from the previous year.

- The consumer price index for Japan was 100.1 (2020=100), up 0.8% over the year before seasonal adjustment, and up 0.1% from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.

- The number of internal migrants was 344,389, a decrease of 13,642 (3.8%) from the previous year.
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants was 143,997, a decrease of 4,975 (3.3%) from the previous year.
- The number of intra-prefectural migrants was 200,392, a decrease of 8,667 (4.1%) from the previous year.
- The number of internal migrants was 315,626, a decrease of 6,868 (2.1%) from the previous year.
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants was 128,499, a decrease of 1,700 (1.3%) from the previous year.
- The number of intra-prefectural migrants was 187,127, a decrease of 5,168 (2.7%) from the previous year.

"Annual Report on Internal Migration" (Japan, 2021)
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants was 2,476,640, up 0.5% from the previous year.
- Regarding the net-migration for prefectures, ten prefectures had positive net-migration in 2021. The number of positive net-migration for Tokyo-to, however, shrank most among these prefectures, compared to the previous year.
- The number of positive net-migration for Tokyo Area was 81,699, decreased by 17,544 persons from the previous year.
- 30.8% of municipalities in Japan had positive net-migration.
- Tokyo area had positive net-migration for the 26th consecutive year. Both Nagoya area and Osaka area had negative net-migration for the 9th consecutive year.
