Winners of the "6th Statistical Data Utilization Awards for Local Governments" and "Statistical Data Analysis Competition 2021" selected
The Statistics Bureau of Japan (SBJ) presents the "Statistical Data Utilization Awards for Local Governments" to local governments which are making outstanding efforts to develop administrative policies and to improve administrative services through using statistical data.
In addition, the SBJ, in cooperation with the National Statistics Center and other organizations, holds the "Statistical Data Analysis Competition" to improve the statistical literacy of the next generation of high school and university students.
Each initiative and submitted paper was reviewed, and the winners of several awards including "the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Award" were selected in October this year.

- As of May 1, 2021 (Final estimates)
- The total population was 125,339 thousand, a decrease of 556 thousand (0.44%) from the previous year.
- The population under 15 years old was 14,886 thousand, a decrease of 219 thousand (1.45%) from the previous year.
- The population aged 15 to 64 was 74,136 thousand, a decrease of 575 thousand (0.77%) from the previous year.
- The population aged 65 and over was 36,317 thousand, an increase of 238 thousand (0.66%) from the previous year.
- Japanese population was 122,849 thousand, a decrease of 552 thousand (0.45%) from the previous year.

- The total population was 125.12 million, a decrease of 0.59 million (0.47%) from the previous year.

- The consumer price index for Japan was 100.1 (2020=100), up 0.2% over the year before seasonal adjustment, and up 0.4% from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.

Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan (September 2021)
- The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 346,666 a decrease of 11,992 (3.3%) from the previous year.
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 152,973, a decrease of 4,871 (3.1%) from the previous year.
- The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 193,693, a decrease of 7,121 (3.5%) from the previous year.
- The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 316,482, a decrease of 14,967 (4.5%) from the previous year.
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 136,511 a decrease of 7,766 (5.4%) from the previous year.
- The number of intra-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 179,971, a decrease of 7,201 (3.8%) from the previous year.

- The number of employed persons was 66.79 million, a decrease of 0.10 million from the previous year.
- The number of unemployed persons was 1.92 million, a decrease of 0.18 million from the previous year.
