Participation in the 63rd ISI World Statistics Congress (Virtual)
The 63rd World Statistical Congress, organized by the International Statistical Institute (ISI), was held virtually from July 12 to 16. The conference has been held in various countries almost every two years since 1887. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year was the first time that the conference was held entirely virtually.
About 1,000 participants from national statistical offices, universities, the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), and other organizations from around the world attended, and many sessions were held. Four members from the Statistics Bureau of Japan participated in sessions such as "Official Statistics in the Changing World of Data Science" and "Building Statistical Registers in Countries with No Administrative Population Registers?.
Statistics Learning Seminar for Children
The Statistics Bureau of Japan organized the "Statistics Academy for Kids 2021" on August 20 and 22. It was a virtual seminar using Zoom for 5th and 6th-grader elementary school students.
The seminar provided children with an opportunity to learn the basics of how statistics can be used to solve social problems, using various events in their daily lives as subjects. It was held in Japanese and a total of about 60 children throughout Japan and abroad participated in the seminar over the two days.

- The consumer price index for Japan in June 2021 was 101.9 (2015=100), up 0.2% over the year before seasonal adjustment, and up 0.3% from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.

- The total population was 125,552 thousand, a decrease of 452 thousand (0.36%) from the previous year.
- The population under 15 years old was 14,949 thousand, a decrease of 192 thousand (1.27%) from the previous year.
- The population aged 15 to 64 was 74,357 thousand, a decrease of 520 thousand (0.69%) from the previous year.
- The population aged 65 and over was 36,246 thousand, an increase of 260 thousand (0.72%) from the previous year.
- Japanese population was 123,011 thousand, a decrease of 538 thousand (0.44%) from the previous year.

- The total population was 125.36 million, a decrease of 0.47 million (0.38%) from the previous year.

Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan (June 2021)
- The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 365,883, an increase of 13,164 (3.7%) from the previous year.
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 159,288, an increase of 788 (0.5%) from the previous year.
- The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 206,595, an increase of 12,376 (6.4%) from the previous year.
- The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 334,602, an increase of 6,059 (1.8%) from the previous year.
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 143,297, a decrease of 3,393 (2.3%) from the previous year.
- The number of intra-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 191,305, an increase of 9,452 (5.2%) from the previous year.

- The number of employed persons in June 2021 was 66.92 million, an increase of 0.22 million from the previous year.
