NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

The First Online Training to CAPMAS for Developing Time Use Survey and Statistical Methods (Including SDGs Indicators) Using IT

   The SBJ held an online training to 20 officials from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) in Egypt from May 25 to 26, 2021, as part of the country focused training course on ?Development of Time Use Survey and Statistical Methods (Including SDGs Indicators) Using IT? produced by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

   CAPMAS?s officials learned the Survey on Time Use and Leisure Activities, Population Census, and the SBJ's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and actively joined in question and answer sessions as well as exchanged views with the SBJ staff.

   The SBJ has supported CAPMAS to strengthen their statistical capacity, cooperating with this program since January 2020.

• The total population was 125,651 thousand, a decrease of 493 thousand (0.39%) from the previous year.
• The population under 15 years old was 14,995 thousand, a decrease of 180 thousand (1.18%) from the previous year.
• The population aged 15 to 64 was 74,438 thousand, a decrease of 607 thousand (0.81%) from the previous year.
• The population aged 65 and over was 36,218 thousand, an increase of 294 thousand (0.82%) from the previous year.

Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan (April 2021)

• The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 709,863, a decrease of 54,323 (7.1%) from the previous year.
• The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 374,099, a decrease of 13,985 (3.6%) from the previous year.
• The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 335,764, a decrease of 40,338 (10.7%) from the previous year.
• The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 662,701, a decrease of 40,916 (5.8%) from the previous year.
• The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 348,107, a decrease of 7,815 (2.2%) from the previous year.

• Expenditures for Two-or-more-person Households
  The average of monthly consumption expenditures per household for April 2021 was 301,043 yen, up 12.4% in nominal terms and up 13.0% in real terms from the previous year.
• Income and Expenditures for Workers? Households
  The average of monthly income per household stood at 543,063 yen, up 2.3% in nominal terms and up 2.8% in real terms from the previous year.
  The average of consumption expenditures per household was 338,638 yen, up 11.5% in nominal terms and up 12.1% in real terms from the previous year.
