Activities by Japan (MIC) for World Statistics Day

At its 51st session in March 2020, the United Nations Statistical Commission launched its efforts to prepare for World Statistics Day (WSD) to be celebrated on October 20 of this year. This is the third WSD, following the first one held in 2010 and the second one in 2015.
In our globalized society, there is an increasing need for internationally comparable and reliable official statistics. Accordingly, WSD has been designated to deepen understanding of official statistics throughout the world.
To raise awareness of this day, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), Government of Japan, led by the Office of the Director-General for Policy Planning on Statistical Standards, has been working on the following activities.
First, the Office of the Director-General for Policy Planning on Statistical Standards has produced a poster and a plastic folder featuring the WSD logo in order to promote the day in Japan. The Office has also contributed articles introducing WSD to media such as magazines for public relations. Furthermore, in mid-October of this year, the Office will post a movie celebrating WSD, subtitled in Japanese and English, on the YouTube channel of the Statistics Bureau of Japan (SBJ)(https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRFrcN33WdRL6IbJ1C-XdsQ).
In addition, a Japanese version of the WSD logo translated by the Office has been posted on the World Statistics Day 2020 website run by the United Nations Statistics Division (https://worldstatisticsday.org/). For your information, a kickoff message from Mr. KAWASAKI Shigeru of Japan, the Chair of the United Nations Statistical Commission, has been posted as well.
