2019 Economic Census for Business Frame (The number of establishments of national and local governments, etc.)

   On June 30, 2020, the SBJ released the number of establishments of national and local governments and other data from the results of the 2019 Economic Census for Business Frame. The Census was conducted to clarify the basic structure of establishments and enterprises, such as their status of economic activities, on a national and regional level, and to contribute to the maintenance of the Establishment Frame Database (Business Register).

   The complete tabulation on privately owned establishments will be released in December 2020.

• Overview
    The number of establishments of national and local governments as of June 1, 2019, was 139,330 (down 5.7% from July 1, 2014).

• The total population was 125,988 thousand, a decrease of 329 thousand (0.26 %) from the previous year.
• The population under 15 years old was 15,160 thousand, a decrease of 216 thousand (1.40 %) from the previous year.
• The population aged 15 to 64 was 74,900 thousand, a decrease of 417 thousand (0.55 %) from the previous year.
• The population aged 65 and over was 35,928 thousand, an increase of 304 thousand (0.85 %) from the previous year.

• Japanese population was 123,688 thousand, a decrease of 506 thousand (0.41 %) from the previous year.

Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan (May 2020)

• The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 300,861, a decrease of 117,628 (28.1 %) from the previous year.
• The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 130,888, a decrease of 60,117 (31.5 %) from the previous year.
• The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 169,973, a decrease of 57,511 (25.3 %) from the previous year.
• The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 279,480, a decrease of 97,974 (26.0 %) from the previous year.
• The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 120,638, a decrease of 48,906 (28.8 %) from the previous year.
• The number of intra-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 158,842, a decrease of 49,068 (23.6 %) from the previous year.

Family Income and Expenditure Survey (Two-or-more-person Households: May 2020)

• Expenditures for Two-or-more-person Households
  The average of monthly consumption expenditures per household for May 2020 was 252,017 yen, down 16.2 % in nominal terms and down 16.2 % in real terms from the previous year.

• Income and Expenditures for Workers? Households
  The average of monthly income per household stood at 502,403 yen, up 9.8 % in nominal terms and up 9.8 % in real terms from the previous year.

  The average of consumption expenditures per household was 280,883 yen, down 15.5 % in nominal terms and down 15.5 % in real terms from the previous year.
