The Fiscal 2020 Budget for the Statistics Bureau and the Director-General for Policy Planning (Statistical Standards) of Japan Approved
The Japanese government's budget for fiscal year 2020 was passed by the Diet on March 27, 2020. The nation's budget for general account spending is approximately 102.7 trillion yen, which marked a record high.
The total budget for the Statistics Bureau and the Director-General for Policy Planning (Statistical Standards) of Japan, including the expense for the 2020 Population Census, is approximately 97.3 billion yen, an increase of 67.7 billion yen compared with the previous fiscal year. This is not including regular personnel expenses.

First Tabulation from the 2019 Economic Conditions Survey Released
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) established the Economic Conditions Survey in order to identify the structure of the manufacturing and service industries every year and contribute to improving the precision of the National Accounts Statistics.
On March 31, 2020, the first tabulation from the first survey, conducted in June 2019, was released.
In addition to this first tabulation, the second and third tabulations that provide more detailed results including regional tables are planned to be released.

The amount of sales (income) by industry division in 2018 was 498.0 trillion yen for ?wholesale and retail trade,? and 413.2 trillion yen for ?manufacturing?.

- The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 362,076, a decrease of 7,824 (2.1 %) from the previous year.
- The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 159,555, a decrease of 1,391 (0.9 %) from the previous year.
- The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 202,521, a decrease of 6,433 (3.1 %) from the previous year.
- The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 326,715, a decrease of 8,201 (2.4 %) from the previous year.

The average of monthly income per household stood at 537,666 yen, up 2.2 % in nominal terms and up 1.7 % in real terms from the previous year.

Current Population Estimates (As of October 1st, 2019)
- The total population was 126,167 thousand, a decrease of 276 thousand compared with the previous year. Both the total population and Japanese population decreased for the ninth year in a row.
- The population aged 15 to 64 was 59.5 % of the total population. This figure was the lowest ever since 1950.
- The migration change of the foreign population was positive for seven consecutive years.
- The population increased in seven prefectures including Tokyo-to, while the natural increase was only seen in Okinawa-ken.

The percentage of the population aged 75 and over exceeds the percentage of the population under 15 years old in 44 prefectures.
