NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

Project on Capacity Development for the Implementation of Economic Census 2018 in Nepal to be started

  "Project on Capacity Development for the Implementation of Economic Census 2018" in Nepal will be implemented from the beginning of 2016. While this project is implemented by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) and supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), The Statistics Bureau of Japan and the Statistical Research and Training Institute (SRTI) in cooperation with the National Statistics Center (NSTAC) etc. cooperate on the implementation of Economic Census 2018, which will be conducted for the first time in Nepal.
  Additionally, the SBJ will not only cooperate in implementing the Economic Census but also offer training in order to enhance the capacity of statistical staff such as the staff of CBS, the statistical staff of the Statistics Office and the staff of line ministries. The SBJ plans to dispatch statistical experts to the CBS and also accept trainees from the CBS.

- Change over the year of Monthly Expenditure per household on Main Items

[Main Items increased in real terms]

  • Automobiles (second-hand): up 54.8% in nominal terms and 53.9% in real terms
  • Mobile telephones unit prices (cell phone, PHS): up 35.3% in nominal terms and 25.0% in real terms
  • Washing machines: up 16.4% in nominal terms and 1.7% in real terms

  • Women's one-piece dresses and suits: down 27.6% in nominal terms and 28.4% in real terms
  • Gardens, trees and plants tending costs: down 23.4% in nominal terms and 23.9% in real terms
  • Automobiles (new): down 17.3% in nominal terms and 17.8% in real terms
  • Package tour costs (overseas): down 12.7% in nominal terms and 17.8% in real terms

  • The population aged 15 to 64 was 77,086 thousand, a decrease of 949 thousand (1.22%) from the previous year.
  • The population aged 65 and over was 33,723 thousand, an increase of 912 thousand (2.78%) from the previous year.

"Monthly Report on Internal Migration in Japan" (December 2015)

  • The number of internal migrants (All nationalities) was 351,431, an increase of 14,529(4.3%) from the previous year.
  • The number of inter-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 142,341, an increase of 8,228 (6.1%) from the previous year.
  • The number of intra-prefectural migrants (All nationalities) was 209,090, an increase of 6,301 (3.1%) from the previous year.
  • The number of internal migrants (Japanese) was 325,472, an increase of 10,490 (3.3%) from the previous year.
  • The number of inter-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 129,861, an increase of 5,971 (4.8%) from the previous year.
  • The number of intra-prefectural migrants (Japanese) was 195,611, an increase of 4,519 (2.4%) from the previous year.

"Annual Report on Internal Migration in Japan"(2015)

  • The number of inter-prefectural migrants has increased for the first time since 2011. The number of male migrants has increased for the first time since 1995 and the number of female migrants has increased for the first time since 2011.
  • The number of positive net-migration for Tokyo-to increased for the fourth straight year, and the number for Osaka-fu and Okinawa-ken increased for the first time since 2013.
  • The number of positive net-migration for Tokyo Area was 119,357. Nagoya Area and Osaka Area had negative net-migration for the third straight year.
  • More than 70 percent of municipalities in Japan had negative net-migration.
  • Miyagi-ken had negative net-migration for the first time since 2011. The number of negative net-migration for Fukushima-ken has increased for the first time since 2011.

Family Income and Expenditure Survey (Two-or-more-person Households: December 2015)

  • Expenditures for Two-or-more-person Households

    The average of monthly consumption expenditures per household for December 2015 was 318,254 yen, down 4.2% in nominal terms and down 4.4% in real terms from the previous year.

  • Income and Expenditures for Workers' Households

    The average of monthly income per household stood at 900,229 yen, down 2.7% in nominal terms and down 2.9% in real terms from the previous year.

    The average of consumption expenditures per household was 340,474 yen, down 4.8% in nominal terms and down 5.0% in real terms from the previous year.

  • The consumer price index for Japan in December 2015 was 103.5 (2010=100), down 0.1% from the previous month, and up 0.2% over the year.
  • The consumer price index for Ku-area of Tokyo in January 2016 (preliminary) was 101.3 (2010=100), down 0.6% from the previous month, and down 0.3% over the year.

  • The unemployment rate by region decreased in Hokkaido, Southern-Kanto, Northern-Kanto/Koshin, Hokuriku, Tokai, Kinki, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa and increased in Tohoku and Chugoku from the previous year.

"Labour Force Survey (Basic Tabulation)" 2015 Yearly Average Results

  • The unemployment rate was 3.4%, a 0.2 point decrease from the previous year. The number of unemployed persons was 2.22 million, a decrease of 140,000 from the previous year.
  • The number of employed persons was 63.76 million, an increase of 250,000 from the previous year.
  • The employment rate was 57.6%, a 0.3 point increase from the previous year.
  • The number of regular employees was 33.13 million, an increase of 260,000 from the previous year. The number of non-regular employees was 19.80 million, an increase of 180,000 from the previous year.
  • Those not in the labour force were 44.73 million, a decrease of 160,000 from the previous year.
