NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
The public online program "The Introductory Course of Data Science for Businessperson" started
On March 17, the Statistics Bureau of Japan started to offer the public online program, "The Introductory Course of Data Science for Businessperson" which supports participants' self-study which anyone can participate in on the website. This program is one of our efforts to develop human capacity with basic knowledge of data science in Japanese society.
Moreover, this program is the first MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) program which the Japanese government has offered.

Lectures on Italian Business Register
On March 18, 2 statistical officials from the Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat), Ms. Caterina Viviano and Ms. Patrizia Cella, visited the Statistics Bureau of Japan and gave some lectures on the Business Register in Italy. After exchanging greetings with the senior officials of the SBJ, Ms. Viviano delivered a course of lecture titled "Business Register of Italy" and Ms. Cella titled "Business Demography of Italy" respectively to SBJ personnel.

Labour Force Survey (Basic Tabulation: January 2015)
- The number of employed persons in January 2015 was 63.09 million, an increase of 470 thousand or 0.8% from the previous year.
- The number of unemployed persons in January 2015 was 2.31 million, a decrease of 70 thousand or 2.9% from the previous year.
The unemployment rate, seasonally adjusted, was 3.6%.

Family Income and Expenditure Survey (January 2015)
Expenditures for Two-or-more-person Households
The average of monthly consumption expenditures per household for January 2015 was 289,847 yen, down 2.4% in nominal terms and down 5.1% in real terms from the previous year.
Income and Expenditures for Workers' Households
The average of monthly income per household stood at 440,226 yen, up 0.4% in nominal terms but down 2.3% in real terms from the previous year.
The average of consumption expenditures per household was 320,674 yen, down 1.6% in nominal terms and down 4.3% in real terms from the previous year.

Consumer Price Index (January 2015, Japan / February 2015, Ku-area of Tokyo (preliminary))
- The consumer price index for Japan in January 2015 was 103.1 (2010=100), down 0.2% from the previous month, and up 2.4% over the year.
The consumer price index for Ku-area of Tokyo in February 2015 (preliminary) was 101.6 (2010=100), the same level as the previous month, and up 2.3% over the year.
