Improvement of Statistics GIS
Improved Statistics Geographical Information System (GIS) became fully operational on January 20th, 2015.
Under an initiative to promote"Open Data" by the government as a whole, the SBJ has made efforts to improve Statistics GIS. Statistics GIS is a system integrating the statistical data into the geographical information. The SBJ first released Statistics GIS of e-Stat in April 2008. In order to improve Statistics GIS on e-Stat, the function of jSTAT MAP, which enables retrieving data held by users and compiling statistics data in an arbitrarily designated area, was added to e-Stat in 2013. After trial operation, the system was put into full operation last January.
Corresponding to the full operation of the improved Statistics GIS, the SBJ also released an app for tablets, "Map De Toukei (Statistics through Map)", which enables you to use Statistics GIS on a tablet with both Android and iOS.
*For your reference, this improved Statistics GIS and "Map De Toukei" are currently available only in Japanese.

Labour Force Survey (Basic Tabulation: December 2014)
- The number of employed persons in December 2014 was 63.57 million, an increase of 380 thousand or 0.6% from the previous year.
- The number of unemployed persons in December 2014 was 2.1 million, a decrease of 150 thousand or 6.7% from the previous year.
The unemployment rate, seasonally adjusted, was 3.4%.

Family Income and Expenditure Survey (December 2014)
Expenditures for Two-or-more-person Households
The average of monthly consumption expenditures per household for December 2014 was 332,363 yen, down 0.6% in nominal terms and down 3.4% in real terms from the previous year.
Income and Expenditures for Workers' Households
The average of monthly income per household stood at 924,911 yen, up 2.1% in nominal terms but down 0.8% in real terms from the previous year.
The average of consumption expenditures per household was 357,772 yen, down 0.2% in nominal terms and down 3.0% in real terms from the previous year.

Consumer Price Index (December 2014, Japan / January 2015, Ku-area of Tokyo (preliminary))
- The consumer price index for Japan in December 2014 was 103.3 (2010=100), up 0.1% from the previous month, and up 2.4% over the year.
The consumer price index for Ku-area of Tokyo in January 2015 (preliminary) was 101.6 (2010=100), down 0.3% from the previous month, and up 2.3% over the year.
