From November 5 to 7, the SBJ hosted the 27th Population Census Conference in Tokyo, Japan. The Conference was sponsored by the Association of National Census and Statistics Directors of America, Asia and the Pacific (ANCSDAAP), in collaboration with Statistics Korea (KOSTAT).

The theme of the Conference was "Evaluation on 2010 Round Census and Planning for Next Round Census". Around 60 statisticians from 22 countries and international organizations, etc. attended the conference.

The Conference started with an opening address by Mr. Yoji Muto, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan, followed by the speeches of Mr. Frank Vitrano, President of the ANCSDAAP, and Mr. Bongho Choi, Secretary of the ANCSDAAP.

During the conference, which consisted of 8 sessions, lively discussions were made among the participants in relation to the experiences of 2010 round censuses and future plans for 2020 round censuses. The participants also enjoyed communication with each other with respect not only to census taking but also to other various topics on statistics during the conference, and friendly relationships were born.

Based on the discussion at the meeting of the Board of Directors of the ANCSDAAP, which was held during the Conference, it was decided that the next Population Census Conference will be held at the Minnesota Population Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States in 2016.
