The Twenty-Seventh Chinese Statistical Mission to Japan

The twenty-seventh statistical mission from China headed by Mr. Cheng Zilin, Director-General of Department of Policies and Legislation, NBS, visited Japan from 12 to 17 October 2009.

They discussed with the Japanese counterparts major challenges concerning official statistics including the current revision of the Statistics Act (China: revised in 2009, Japan: revised in 2007/ full effect on April 1, 2009), the legal framework concerning statistics, the provision of statistical data and the Economic Census.

In addition, the mission visited the Hokkaido Prefectural Government and City of Hakodate, and exchanged information and expenditure on the statistical activities of local governments.

Japan and China have been cooperating with each other to dispatch and invite statistical missions almost every year since 1980. The main purpose of this program is to develop official statistics for both governments. We have widely discussed our experiences and challenges with regard to statistical issues, such as organization, surveys, tabulation and data provision, and circumstances of local statistical organizations.

The members of the twenty-seventh mission were as follows:

Mr. Cheng Zilin               Director-General of Department of Policies and Legislation, NBS
Mr. Wang Wenbo             Deputy Director-General, Department of Comprehensive Statistics
Mr. Li Wanmao                Deputy Director-General, Department of Investment and Construction Statistics
Ms. Zhang Shuyang        Director, Policy Research Division, Department of Policies and Legislation
