Signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Statistics Bureau of Japan and the United Kingdom Statistics Authority (May 2023)
On May 17, 2023, Professor Sir Ian Diamond, National Statistician of the United Kingdom Statistics Authority (UKSA) and five statistical officials from UKSA visited SBJ to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between SBJ and UKSA.
Mr. INOUE Takashi, Director-General of SBJ, and Professor Sir Ian Diamond, National Statistician of UKSA, had a meeting, and agreed to establish the basis for in depth cooperation between SBJ and UKSA in the area of official statistics and signed the MOC.
The main fields of collaboration are:
a. Data Science: Capability Development and Applications
b. Utilisation of Big data and Administrative Data in Official Statistics
c. Data Access for Users and Researchers
d. Official Statistics Regulation and Quality Control
e. Statistical Governance and Legislation
During the discussion held in SBJ, they recognized the importance of interaction and exchanging views towards further cooperation between both countries in the future.
On the same day, the UKSA delegation visited Mr. MATSUMOTO Takeaki, the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, Ms. OMI Asako, State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications and Mr. HASEGAWA Junji, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs and Communication to share their perception of the cooperation.
