3. Number of Establishments by Type of Legal Organization

"Individual proprietorships" decreased, "Companies" increased

  With regard to the number of establishments by type of legal organization, "Individual proprietorships" accounts for 1,233 thousand, about six out of ten (58.0%) of the whole service industry, followed by "Companies", at 660 thousand (a 31.0% share of the whole service industry), while there are 233 thousand "Others" (an 11.0% share of the whole service industry). "Individual proprietorships" accounts for the highest rate in the service industry compared to all industries.
  In addition, with regard to the number of establishments by type of legal organization compared to 1999, "Individual proprietorships" decreased by 5.0%, while "Companies" increased by 5.2%, and "Others" increased by 2.9%.

The industry which has the highest ratio of "Individual proprietorships" is "Medical and other health services", while the industry which has the highest ratio of "Companies" is "Advertising"

  With regard to the composition ratio of the number of establishments by type of legal organization and classification medium industry, the highest ratio of the category "Individual proprietorships" is 86.2% for "Medical and other health services" such as massage, followed by 82.3% for "Laundry, beauty and bath services", and 71.7% for "Miscellaneous education, learning support" such as Supplementary tutorial schools. The highest ratio for the category of "Companies" is 92.1% for "Advertising", followed by 89.7% for "Video picture, sound information, character information production and distribution", and 82.6% for "Goods rental and leasing".

"Companies" increased in "Social insurance and social welfare"

  With regard to the number of establishments by type of legal organization and classification medium industry compared to 1999 , the figure for "Individual proprietorships", "Medical and other health services" increased 6 thousand (a 10.0% increase), and that of "Automobile maintenance services" increased 5 thousand (a 13.3% increase). In contrast, "General eating and drinking places" decreased 32 thousand (a 10.0% decrease), and "Laundry, beauty and bath services" decreased 14 thousand (a 4.1% decrease). Comparing the composition ratio for these industries with that of 1999, "Automobile maintenance services" increased 3.0 points, "Medical and other health services" decreased 3.6 points, "General eating and drinking places" decreased 3.5 points, and "Laundry, beauty and bath services" decreased 1.5 points.
  In reference to "Companies", "Social insurance and social welfare" increased 9 thousand (a 580.1% increase), and "General eating and drinking places" increased 8 thousand (a 6.3% increase). In contrast, "Accommodations" decreased 8 thousand (a 21.4% decrease), and "Services for amusement and hobbies" decreased 5 thousand (a 13.2% decrease). Comparing these industries' composition ratios with those of 1999, "Social insurance and social welfare" increased 14.1 points, "General eating and drinking places" increased 3.5 points, "Services for amusement and hobbies" increased 2.4 points, and "Accommodations" decreased 2.1 points.
