Statistics on Food Poisoning This survey is compiled annually with the aim to grasp the situation of the occurrence of victim of food poisoning and deaths by the poisoning effectively and to determine the complicated situation of occurrence. This survey covers all the health centres of the whole country. The Prefectural governments which conducted the survey enter in the investigation slip for food poising case after the survey finishes and submits to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Patient Survey (Fundamental Statistical Survey) This survey is conducted every three years by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare with the aim to clarify diseases conditions of patients who use hospitals or clinics and to obtain basic data for health care policy making. Health centres The centres offer services related to the preservation and improvement of local residents’ health, such as disease prevention and improvements in sanitation. They are established by prefectural and city governments in accordance with the Community Health Act. 24 Health and Sanitation 587characteristics with a view to health management and improvement of local residents by public health centres and municipality that implement the policy, thereby obtaining basic data for efficient and effective promotion of the regional health care policy by government and local public agencies. The report covers all the public health centres (hokenjyo) and municipalities. The report is composed of two parts, namely, Local Health Part and Health Promotion Part. The reference date is a day designated for each medical institution among three days in the middle of October. The patients who received treatment on the survey date at the survey institutions and those who were discharged in September are surveyed. Survey of Medical Institutions (Fundamental Statistical Survey) This survey has been conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare since 1953, with the aim to clarify distribution and conditions of hospitals and clinics and to obtain basic data for health care policy making. The survey consists of two parts: the Static Survey of Medical Institutions and the Dynamic Survey of Medical Institutions. The Static Survey is conducted every three years with the aim to grasp the conditions of all the medical institutions, whereas the Dynamic Survey is conducted monthly on the basis of the applications and reports of opening and closing submitted by medical institutions. The Static Survey covers all the medical institutions in Japan that are in practice at the time of survey. The reference date is as of 1 October. Hospital Reports The reports have been compiled since 1949 by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in order to clarify the utilization of hospitals and clinics equipped with beds by the patients and to obtain basic data for health care policy making. The survey, conducted every month, covers all the hospitals and clinics equipped with beds. Statistics of Physicians, Dentists and Pharmacists This survey is conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare with the aim to clarify the distribution of sex, age, workplace and category of treatment about physicians, dentists and pharmacists and to obtain basic data for health care policy making of the Ministry. The survey is conducted once every two years on the situation as of the end of December, with the respective notification forms of doctors, dentists, and pharmacists notified under the provisions of the Medical Practitioners Act, the Dentists Act, and the Pharmacists Act as the subjects of tabulation. Starting in 2018, the Survey of Physicians, Dentists, and Pharmacists was discontinued and the Statistics on Physicians, Dentists, and Pharmacists were created instead.
