Survey of Institutions and Establishments for Long-term Care The Survey of Institutions and Establishments for Long-term Care is conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in conjunction with the start of the Nursing-Care Insurance System, with the aim to obtain the basic information needed for the base development for the nursing-care service supply. The Survey covers nursing-care facilities, establishments for in-home services and establishments for assistance for in-home nursing-care. Social Welfare Facilities These are facilities established to improve the welfare of people requiring assistance by providing various types of treatment and training to support, nurture, or rehabilitate the elderly, children, people with mental or physical disabilities, people in need, and others who need various services in their social lives. Broadly divided, there are welfare institutions for the elderly, institutions for the support of the disabled, protection facilities, women's guidance homes, children's welfare institutions, and other social welfare institutions. Integrated centres for early childhood education and care Those refer to facilities which provide preschool age children both preschool education and nursery services, and provide childcare-related support in communities as a facility with a combination of kindergarten and nursery school function. Authorised nursery-type children's centres Those refer to facilities which provide preschool age children both preschool education and nursery services, and provide childcare-related support in communities by having the function of a kindergarten by accepting children other than those who require daycare services, etc. Regional childcare facilities "Regional childcare facilities" refers to business establishments that provide daycare to children aged from 0 to 2 in smaller numbers than nursery schools (which accommodate 20 or more children in principle). There are four types including small-scale childcare facilities, etc. Coordinated facilities (nursery schools, kindergartens, and certified centres for early childhood education and care) are assigned to support the content of daycare and accept children after graduation. Welfare Nursing-Care Facilities for the Elderly Those are the Special Nursing Homes for the Elderly defined in the Elderly Welfare Act (only those with capacity of 30 or more persons), and also designated by the prefecture governors as such in accordance to the Long-Term Care Insurance Act. They are intended to provide, according to the institutional service plans, dairy life care services such as bathing, excreting, eating and support for other daily activities, as well as functional training, health care and recuperation support. Survey on Public Assistance Recipients This survey is conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare with the aim to clarify conditions of receiving public assistance for household which are receiving or have received public assistance under Livelihood Protection Act and obtaining basic data needed for planning and management of the livelihood protection system and administration on health, labour and welfare. For fiscal 2012, the topics related to livelihood protection included in the Report on Social Welfare Administration and Services and those of the national survey on public assistance recipients were consolidated, and a new name, Survey on Public Assistance Recipients, was given. This survey is conducted based on reports on specified items from prefectures, designated cities by cabinet order and core cities. Survey of Social Welfare Institutions This survey is conducted every year by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare with the aim to clarify the number of the nationwide social welfare institutions, conditions of inmates and personnel and obtaining basic data for the promotion of social welfare policy. A detailed survey has been investigated every three years, and a simplified survey in those years between the two detailed surveys.
