The Statistical Survey of Energy Consumption in the METI Selected Industries (Fundamental Statistical Survey) This survey is conducted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (transferred to the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy from 2016), which clarifies the actual consumption of oil and other energy by those industries. The sample of the survey is about 1,300 establishments selected from industries producing pulp and paper products, chemical products, synthetic fibre, oil products, ceramic products, glassware, steel products, nonferrous metal products, or machinery, classified to the Major Group-Manufacturing of the Japan Standard Industrial Classification. The survey is conducted every month on the monthly consumption of oil and other energy. Electricity The data is based on "Summary of Electric Power Industry" compiled by Agency for Natural Resources and Energy. Statistics in these publications are the tabulation results from monthly reports of generation and receiving, 11 Energy and Water This chapter covers supply and demand of energy, electricity, gas and water. The section on supply and demand of energy contains statistics on the structure of energy consumption and the supply-and-demand table of energy. The section on electricity contains statistics on the generation capacity of electric utilities, including self-generating power plants and the supply and demand of electricity. The section on gas contains statistics on the supply capacity of general gas enterprises and the supply and demand of gas. The section on water contains statistics on water supplies, industrial water and agricultural water. Supply and demand of energy The Agency for Natural Resources and Energy publishes annually "General Energy Statistics". This publication contains the consolidated balance sheet of energy demand and supply which shows integrally the supply and demand relation of all kinds of energy. The consolidated balance sheet consists of the balance expressed by the actual figures in terms of the unit of each energy and the balance expressed by the converted figures by the average calorific equivalent per unit of each energy, the latter of which is shown in this Yearbook. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry publishes annually the results of the Current Survey of Production and various kinds of surveys on distribution, supply and demand by "Yearbook of Mineral Resources and Petroleum Products Statistics". Current Survey of Production (Fundamental Statistical Survey) Statistics by a complete count of establishments which produce petroleum products, crude oil, natural gas and coke are shown in this chapter (see "9 Mining and Manufacturing"). Current Survey of Petroleum Product Supply and Demand (Fundamental Statistical Survey) With the aim to clarify the actual status of the supply and demand of petroleum products, this survey has been carried out every month since 1952 by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and since 2002 by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy. The survey is conducted for the establishments which import and sell petroleum products, or for the establishments which accept directly imported crude oil or the crude oil produced in country, and that establishments belong to manufacturers of petroleum products, importer or specific petroleum dealer, or petroleum acceptance traders in the country. 11 Energy and Water 305
