Statistical Survey on Livestock The survey has been conducted annually by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in order to clarify the situation of livestock production industry by presenting statistics on major livestock and raisers, and to provide basic data for the policy on livestock. Forestry and barley that are harvested within about one year from seeding or planting and not for multi-year harvest are planted. The survey is composed of the Survey on Pigs, the Survey on Laying Hens and the Survey on Broilers. The survey covers raisers of pigs, raisers of egg-laying chickens (those with at least 1,000 adult hens), and raisers of broilers (those with at least 3,000 broilers shipped per year), and the raisers are divided into special (non-profit) and general (for-profit) tiers. The special tier and "very large" stratum of the general tier are surveyed in their entirety, while the general tier other than the "very large" stratum is surveyed by means of a sample survey. Note that the survey is suspended in years that the Census of Agriculture and Forestry is implemented. The survey is composed of <1> Survey on Slaughterhouse, <2>Survey on Hen Eggs Marketing, <3> Survey on Poultry Marketing and <4> Survey on Meat Market. The survey is applying; <1> all the slaughterhouses, <2> Major collection / shipping organisations with the handled volume of 10 ton or more, selected in the order of the direct collection volume (within the prefecture), whose accumulated collection volume reaches 60 percent of the total of the respective prefecture, <3> Poultry slaughterhouses listed in the fact-finding survey on poultry inspections that slaughter more than 300,000 birds annually, <4> All meat wholesale companies in central wholesale meat markets and local wholesale meat markets nationwide. The survey covers major shipping organisations for the price index of agricultural products and major retail stores in prefectures for the price index of materials for agricultural production. The execution of the survey is borne by the staff of local statistical office and entrusted private research organisation. the forest area meeting following criteria; (a) Operation using land of three hectares or larger whereon the owner can grow or cut trees (excluding cutting procured standing trees or bamboo only). (b) Commissioned operation of growing, log production, or log production from purchased standing trees. Forest (sanrin) Forest (sanrin) refers to the land for growing forests to obtain lumber, firewood, and charcoal, Statistical Survey on Livestock Products Marketing This survey is conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries with the aim to grasp the traded volume and prices of livestock, and to provide basic materials for the policies such as control of production and shipments of livestock and the stabilisation of price. Survey on Production of Milk and Milk Products (See "9 Mining and Manufacturing") Statistical Survey on Prices in Agriculture This survey is conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries with the aim to measure the movement of prices of agricultural inputs and outputs, and to compile agricultural price indices from prices of commodities directly related to agricultural management.
