Survey of Household Economy Structure of Survey

Universe

Households to be covered by the Survey of Household Economy comprise approximately 53 million households (the figure for 2015 Census) throughout Japan. Since it is unfeasible to survey all of these households, however, approximately 30,000 households are sampled by statistical methods and surveyed. Based on such survey results, the figures for all households throughout Japan are estimated.

Method of Selection of Survey Household

The entire land of Japan is divided into areas consisting of about 50 households each, and survey areas are selected from these areas. Ten households are randomly selected from all households residing in the selected survey area.
