II-5 Parent Companies and Subsidiary Companies

The number of foreign companies' subsidiary companies grew, more than half of which were in the "Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Places" .

The number of enterprises having a parent company stood at 72,412, and that of enterprises owning a subsidiary company stood at 44,160. The number of enterprises owning a related company came to 40,184. All numbers decreased compared with the result of 1996 survey.

The number of enterprises having an overseas parent company (subsidiaries of a foreign company) stood at 2,338,increasing 31.5% compared with that of 1996 survey.

More than half of the enterprises having an overseas parent company were in the "Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Places" .

Around half of the enterprises owning an overseas subsidiary company were in "Manufacturing" .
