Summary of the Results of Internal Migration in 2006

1.  Number of inter-prefectural migrants decreased for 11 straight years

1.1.  Under the influence of the annexation of municipalities, number of Japanese internal migrants in 2006 was 5,564 thousand persons,decreased by 37 thousand persons or 0.7% in comparison with the previous year.

1.2.  Number of Japanese inter-prefectural migrants in 2006 was 2,594 thousand persons, decreased by 8 thousand persons or 0.3% in comparison with the previous year, and decreased for 11 straight years.

2.  Net-migration increased in 9 prefectures : Tokyo-to, Aichi-ken, and so on

2.1.  Looking at net-migration by prefectures, 9 prefectures showed plus : Tokyo-to(rate of net-migration 0.73%),Aichi-ken(0.29%), Kanagawa-ken(0.25%), and so on.

        Rates of net-migration increased in 7 prefectures compared with the previous year : Saitama- ken , Chiba- ken , Shiga- ken , and so on.

2.2.  On the other hand, 38 prefectures showed minus : Aomori-ken(the lowest rate of (-) 0.67%), Nagasaki-ken (0.66%), Akita-ken(0.51%), and so on. 

        Rates of net-migration increased in 29 prefectures compared with the previous year : Okinawa- ken , Aomori- ken , Kochi- ken , and so on.
