Schedule of Census Implementation
The Economic Census for Business Activity is aimed at all establishments and enterprises and is conducted via two methods: surveys conducted by enumerators (primarily in the case of single-unit establishments and new establishments) and surveys conducted by the national, prefectural or municipal governments (primarily enterprises with branch shops, etc.).
Implementation of the census will be carried out as shown in the figures below.

Census forms distributed
May 20th(Fri) - 31st(Tue), 2016
Enumerators visit single-unit establishments without branch shops, etc., to directly distribute census forms.
Census completed on-line / Census forms collected
From June 1st(Wed), 2016
Starting June 1st, enumerators collect census forms directly from single-unit establishments without branch shops, etc., and from new establishments.
On-line completion of the census is also possible.

*On-line completion of the census is possible between May 20th (Fri) and June 7th (Tue), 2016.
*The period for collection of census forms by enumerators will differ for each municipality.
Census forms checked and tabulated
Census forms are checked for errors, omissions, etc., and are then tabulated by computer.

Census forms sent out
Mid to late May, 2016
The national government mails out census forms to the head offices of enterprises with branch shops, etc., as well as to the head offices of some single-unit establishments, and includes questionnaire content for the subsidiary establishments.
Census completed on-line / Census forms collected
May 20th(Fri) - 31st(Tue), 2016
The census is completed and returned either on-line or by post (i.e., either on paper or electronically).
*Individual proprietors with branch shops, etc., have until June 15th (Wed) to complete the census.

Census forms are checked for errors, omissions, etc., and are then tabulated by computer.
Release of Census Results
Census results shall be made publicly available and searchable on-line and in a physically published format.
Preliminary tabulation results (tabulation results for census items common to all industries) shall be released by the end of May 2017.
Confirmed tabulation results (tabulation results for all census items) shall be sequentially released starting in September 2017.
