36 2 人口・世帯Count of Population, Vital Events, and Households Derived from the Basic Resident Registration The Count of Population, Vital Events, and Households Derived from the Basic Resident Registration is published by Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications for the number of individuals (population in the Basic Resident Registration) and number of households registered in resident records as of 1 January, as well as vital events (the number of entries and deletions in resident records) during the period from 1 January to 31 December of the previous year. This chapter covers foreigners who were covered by the Basic Resident Registration Act from 9 July 2012. Statistics on Foreign National Residents These statistics are compiled for the purpose of clarifying the processing status of the affairs under its jurisdiction, and to serve as basic data for policies, by ascertaining the number of foreign nationals residing in Japan as of the end of June and December of each year by nationality/region, status of residence, and prefecture. These statistics are published by the Immigration Services Agency of Japan, Ministry of Justice. This chapter covers the number of foreign residents by nationality as of the end of December. Statistics on Japanese Nationals Overseas These statistics are collected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan with the aim of understanding the actual situation of Japanese nationals overseas as of 1 October each year. They are used as important basic data for protecting Japanese nationals overseas and planning consular policies. The survey covers Japanese nationals (including those with dual nationality) staying abroad for a long period (three months or longer) and permanent expatriates. Japanese nationals staying abroad for a long period are those residing in their current country (region) of stay for a set period of time. Permanent expatriates are Japanese nationals residing in their current country (region) of stay for an indefinite period of time. Vital Statistics (Fundamental Statistical Survey) This statistics is conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare to identify vital events of Japan and obtain basic data source for population and policy making on health, labour and welfare. The statistics covers the total events of live births, deaths, marriages, divorces and foetal deaths notified in accordance with "Family Registration Law" and "Provisions Regarding Notification of Stillbirths". This chapter covers information on the number of live births and deaths and the live birth and death rates of Japanese people in Japan from the Annual Vital Statistics Report. The computation of vital rates is the Japanese population as of 1 October from the Population Census or the Population Estimates mentioned above. Collection of Population Statistics This collection covers basic statistics on population released by various statistical organisations. The National Institute of Population and Social Security Research has added relatively simple processing to these statistics, such as the calculation of ratios and rates. The collection is published by the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research. The collection includes live births and foetal deaths, deaths and life, marriages, divorces, marital status. This chapter covers the number of live births and live birth rates by age group of Japanese female based on the Vital Statistics. Journal of Population Problems The Journal of Population Problems is published by the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research. It contains academic papers on population problems and is compiled with an eye to disseminating expert knowledge to the general public. This chapter covers standardised vital rates and reproduction rates for female.
